The history of the "500 Topolino" is known to be the result of an unavoidable request from Benito Mussolini to Senator Agnelli, due to the need to motorize Italians with an economical car. In 1949, the world's most famous Italian car was given a derivative for commercial use and for "transporting things for private use". As early as 1936 (the first year of sale of the 500), a 'van' version with a load capacity of 300 kg was also prepared, mainly for the Army of the Kingdom of Italy. The chassis and suspension of this military van were modified to strengthen the load platform at the rear, which had caused problems with sagging in the first "short leaf spring" version. From 1949 Fiat introduced the 500 C, which had a completely revised body, with a front end whose headlights were incorporated into the front wings and the visible spare wheel on the tail (a typical feature of pre-war cars) disappeared. Production continued until 1954, a year before the Topolino - in the 500 C Belvedere version - gave way to the Fiat 600.
