1981 BMW R100 RT
The BMW R100 is a motorbike produced by BMW in numerous versions from 1976 to 1996. The latest evolution of this motorbike that the Munich factory promoted in the 1970s as the "future on two wheels", is the R100 RT. The bike we offer was produced in 1981 and imported to Spain, where it was sold and registered for the first time on 12.03.1981. The frame and engine are matching numbers and, as stated on the aluminium plate with the engraved reference numbers, the engine fitted by the factory is a Type R 100 RS, with an output of 51Kw (70 hp). In 2016 the current owner bought it in a state of disrepair from a mechanic in Alicante, and began a long and meticulous restoration to bring it back to the state it is in today. The engine was completely disassembled and reassembled with new components (such as pistons and cylinders) or completely remanufactured - the fork was rebuilt and the shock absorbers changed. The frame, as well as the mudguards and tank were sandblasted and repainted with original paint. The braking system, a problem known to R100 enthusiasts, was improved by using more modern friction materials than those offered in 1980. All components have been re-chromed and the bike looks as good as new, with every part used strictly original. During the restoration that lasted over a year (of which all photographic documentation is provided), the owner decided to adopt RS specifications, but kept the high handlebars, more comfortable and practical for riding. The number plate is the original Spanish first registration and, since the restoration was completed, the bike has traveled only 1000km. The original Krauser-Bmw hard saddlebags are also offered.
