MERCEDES-BENZ SL 190

In 1955 the younger sister of the famous (and very expensive) Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing was born. Max Hoffman - car importer in the United States who gave the idea to Porsche for the creation of the 356 Speedster - solicited the three-pointed star brand for the production of a model that maintained the sporty character of the 300 but which could be accessible to a wider audience broad. With this premise, the Stuttgart House worked on a reduced chassis in size, installing a 1.9-litre engine "packaged" by a roadster body.

The 190 SL (Sport Leicht - Sportiva Leggera) was designed primarily for the American market and produced 25,881 units between 1955 and 1963. It was marketed as a sport touring car, privileging the ride comfort without going to the detriment of sportiness.

The car offered in auction was produced in 1956 and sold overseas to its first owner, in the USA, in the same year. The rounded lines and the impeccable body are the result of a complete restoration that has led to the rebirth of this "sporty travel". Together with the body shop, brought to plate and repainted in its original color Grey Cement, the restauration has involved the insides - dismantled, restored and lined with the skin used in the period - and also the mechanics, revising every single detail inside to the 4 cylinders. The prestigious restoration respected the originality and it has been certified with the issuance of “Targa Oro” plate by the “Automotoclub Storico Italiano”. 

The quality and attention to detail make this magnificent model an object of desire for many car enthusiasts.
