1939 MG TB TICKFORD DROPHEAD COUPE
The turning point for MG (Morris Garages) was in 1935, when it was acquired by Morris Motors, changing its business name to MG Cars. The direction and design of sports cars in Oxfordshire County passed from Cecil Kimber - who continued to play a key role in the development of the cars - to the "head office" of Morris Motors. The first model produced under the new leadership was the T-Type of 1936, followed by the TA - which marked the path to the future success of the MG in the 1940s. In 1939, a new car with several improvements made its debut under the TB, adopting for the first time the 1.250cc XPAG pushrod 4-cylinder in-line engine. This one was derived from the Morris Ten, updated with a better tuning and the adoption of two carburetors. As with the TA, the TB was also available as a roadster (standard) or with the more luxurious Tickford "Drophead coupe" body made by Salmons & Sons. Among the TB versions, the most sought-after and rare is the elegant Tickford: the entry of the United Kingdom in World War II stopped the production of the TB in September 1939 to 379 specimens, of which only 57 equipped with the splendid Tickford Drophead body.
