Produced in excess of 8,000 units between 1953 and 1955, the Triumph TR2 was a huge commercial success, selling both at home (UK) and abroad. The need to build a sports car capable of competing with rivals MG and Jaguar meant that all of Standard-Triumph's resources were devoted to a research and development programme that culminated in the TR2 prototype being unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1953. Built on an 'X' shaped spar frame, the TR2 employed a 1991cc in-line 4-cylinder engine producing 90bhp, mated to a 4-speed + rm gearbox. The stunning Roadster on offer here - chassis TS/7376-LO matching number with engine TS/7482-E - left the Triumph factory on 18 July 1955. It is offered with the sought-after option of a hard top and overdrive on the highest gear (a specification offered by the factory at the time). An invasive restoration of the complete car, including bodywork, engine and interior, was carried out between 2020 and 2021 and all work carried out has been photographically documented. The car is also accompanied by a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
