+ Moonshine's success

Moonshine, formerly "Rrose Selavy", was built by Jeremy Rogers and designed by Douglas Peterson with the aim of excelling in the 1977 Admiral Cup. The hull, innovative and light at the time, proved to be extremely strong, so much so that Moonshine, along with only 5 other boats, were the only ones to emerge unscathed from the notorious Festnet debacle. Moonshine was the great protagonist of the British team's victory in that year's Admiral, displaying the sail number K-3666.

+ Rrose Selavy

The new Italian owner Riccardo Bonadeo renamed her Rrose Selavy and gave her the sail number ITA-8066. In order for the boat to comply with the new tonnage rules, the designer applied bumps to the belly straddling the waterline, and had to ensure that the boat was adequately ballasted so that its profile would not change. In the 1979 edition of the Admiral Cup, RRose Selavy did not seem to suffer from the modifications and once again came out on top even against boats that were now more technologically advanced than her, this time flying the Italian flag.

+ Why is it still a historical sailboat?

Moonshine is still the only boat to have won two different teams in two successive competitions. In 1983, the boat left the race courses for a few years to return to racing in southern Italy, where she continued to distinguish herself, until, having abandoned all competitive ambitions, her last owner decided to give her a well-deserved rest by subjecting her to a thorough conservative refit that did not alter the deck plans or her original layout, but included the elimination of the bumps and ballast, using that same weight to create the new interiors.
